In 2006 Ironwood Maine was founded with help by former employees from Turn-about Ranch (Wayne Stinson and Teresa Shinedling) in Utah. They have since left the facility.

The length of the program is 6 to 9 months. The target group are children aged from 13 to 18 and they can detain 23 teenagers according to their record at NATSAP <Ref>NATSAP record</ref>. The allow the child to arrive by the use of escort firms.

Level system[redigér]

There are four levels at Ironwood:

New detainees are placed in a wilderness therapy environment at a place called "Frye" near the main building. During these levels (1 and 2) the only option for communication with parents are letter writing. Phone privileges are obtained once the detained child moves up to level 3.

Children, who have reached that level are living at the main facility with children on level 4.
