New Beginnings Girls Academy
New Beginnings Girls Academy is behavior modification facility marketed as a Christian Boarding School located on 7437 Lawrence Country Road, La Russell, Missouri 64848 <Ref>The facility on Google maps</Ref>.
The facility is able to detain an unknown number of teenage girls aged between 12 and 17.
The program is claimed to last a year.
The campus in Florida is now managed by an Evangelist called Steven Blankenship <Ref>BACKGROUND OF DIRECTOR OF NEW BEGINNINGS GIRL’S ACADEMY PACE, FLORIDA</Ref>. It is located in Pace <Ref>The Florida facility on Google maps</Ref>. Late 2009 it changed name to Marvelous Grace Girls Academy.
A former detainee describe a typical day as:
We woke up very early, made our beds and brushed our teeth, congregated to read the Bible and pray, returned to our areas to do more in-depth chores, and went to the school building to do what passed for school - no real teachers; just an unaccredited home school curriculum. Then, we worked off our acquired demerits, worked on Bible Memorization, had song practice, took showers, had a chapel or church service, had Bible reading and prayer time again, and, finally, went to bed. It was basically the same thing every day. Saturday was a work day.
The facility uses the Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) workbook curriculum provided by School of Tomorrow <Ref>Accelerated Christian Education </Ref>. School of Tomorrow requries that just one person in an entire school be "certified" to use the curriculum. This certification is NOT from any state agency. It is issued by School of Tomorrow. This enables schools to use the curriculum without having any certified teachers by the State.
The detained girl are given time to write a letter to the parents once a week. The parents can email their letters to a certain email-address and the staff will give the letter to the teenager. Censorship is not stated on the webpage.
Phone privileges can be received from the parent 30 days after the girl has been detained at the the facility. After the first call, the girl may receive a 15 minute phone call every two weeks. No phone call will be accepted for the student from anyone who is not a parent/legal guardian.
After six months of stay at New Beginnings, the detained girl is granted a 3 day, 2 night visit with her family. During this time, she may not leave the state of Missouri/Florida; and attendance to ALL church services is required.
As stated in a thread they used corporal punishment in the past and turned into forced writing of sentences overnight, but after the Florida home are run by a new management it is unknown whether this department use corporal punishment today <Ref>New Beginnings Girls Academy: Survivor Story Part I, a thread on Fornits Webforum</ref>.
