Brat Camp is a TV show about a group of teenagers suffering from various problems who are sent away to different behavior modification programs in the United States. Originally a UK show by Twenty Twenty Television shown on Channel 4, different versions have been made by American and German TV-channels.



Series 1 and 2[redigér]

Filming of season 3 did take place during the summer of 2008 at a wilderness program called Monarch Family Healing in
Colorado.It was broadcasted at RTL starting February, 2009 <Ref>RTL Zuschauerservice, RTL homepage (In German)</Ref>.

Season 4 was a customized program based on the experiences from Series 3. The parents were more involved this year. The show resulted in some criticism <ref>annegret noble – nein, danke !, Pro-science blog</ref>

Redcliff was asked to be part in a second round of Brat Camp, but declined because the presence of camera made it impossible for the staff to act as "normal".<Ref>"When the cameras are rolling" Addiction professional, January/February 2006</Ref> In a interview years later James Fonfé accused the staff for trying to convince the parent to detain their children at a boarding school belonging to the same company and withholding the fact that their Visa's would run out in 90 days. The third series followed a girls-only group with the principal activity being a single extended hike. This series aired from 8 February 2006 on Channel 4. In addition, Brat Camp Unseen, a half-hour show with additional footage, was aired on E4.

In 2011 it was revealed that Jemma Henley from the second serie had enjoyed a successful career in the modeling business to the teaching of morale ethics at the ranch <ref>Brat Camp wild child turns her life around, This is Oxfordshire, May 10, 2011</ref>. Earlier Lydia Rowlands from the third serie had established herself as a dancer.

The fourth series, Family Brat Camp, aired from 4 October 2006, and brings along the parents of the four children to make them take responsibility for their kids' behaviour at the SUWS wilderness program in Idaho.

In 2007 happy slappings of Benjamin Tait began to appear in larger numbers on Youtube <Ref>One of the abusive and disgusting videos, from Youtube</Ref>. The fifth UK version aired October 2007. According to a statement on Anasazi's homepage<Ref>Anasazi press release</Ref>, a special 21-day version of their normal 42-day program is being developed for television, after which Twenty Twenty Television will fund the remainder of the treatment if the parents and clinical staff consider it necessary.

As of 2010 there is no further seasons planned due to the economy.


The Netherlands version did after extended negotiations end up with a customized program, where the teenagers were sent to Kenya. It is called Van Etter tot Engel <Ref>Nederland version</Ref>.

In Spain they made a customized program called "El Campamento". It was filmed in several locations around Spain using a mix of wilderness therapy and adventure therapy <ref>El Campamento, homepage of the program</ref>.

Information on the ABC Family version is unknown.

The UK version of the show generated some criticism. An influential children's charity Barnardo's are concerned that the TV show sends a message to parents that a short period of tough love can resolve any problems.<Ref>Charity hits out at Brat Camp message (</Ref>
