ABC-skolen (The ABC school) is a weekend day school in Odense, Denmark. It is not acredited or recognized by the department of education and it not registered as a school by the local authorities either.

Program structure[redigér]

The children are offered day-schooling during the weekend. The school was formed by parents in order to offer additional education for the children with other native origins than Danish and to help the parents with educating some of the foreign culture, which is not taught in the public schools.

In the news[redigér]
This facility used
corporal punishment

In January 2008 the school was charged due to claims of abuse. According to teachers in the public schools the children attend on the weekdays, the children were punished by being hit over the fingers if they answered questions too slow. Corporal punishment is a crime in Denmark.

The incident made politicians asked for forced regulations of private associations offering schooling, so Denmark would not have a loop-hole like the state of Missouri where school just can state that they are religious in order to avoid any kind of regulation. <Ref>Børn tæskes med kæp i weekendskole (Children are beaten with a stick in the weekendschool - Article in Danish), Politiken (Newspaper), January 24 - 2008</Ref> <Ref>DF vil have tilsyn med weekendskoler (DF (Party in Parliament) wants regulation of weekendschools - article in Danish), Politiken (Newspaper), January 24 - 2008</Ref> <Ref>Hurtig behandling af voldsanklage (Fast processing of claim of abuse), Denmark Radio One, January 25 - 2008</Ref>
